Salt processing is extremely sensitive to moisture content. Regulating the moisture content during the drying process optimizes production for best quality and savings in energy. With NIR moisture measurement salt manufacturers can meet their process control needs while increasing their profitability, reduce waste, conserve energy, and shelf–life expectancy. MoistTech has thousands of installations worldwide in salt processing facilities. We offer both online for the continuous readings of NIR moisture measurement and laboratory NIR moisture sensors for spot tests near lines or in your quality control labs. Offering a wide variety of instruments including sanitary food grade models that employ a food grade polymeric lens or sapphire window. The IR3000 has higher accuracy than any other systems and conveyor product gaps have no effect on the accuracy of the measurement readings.
MoistTech’s NIR online moisture sensor is installed directly on the process line, eliminating the need for grabbing samples so that manufacturers
can maximize the dryer operation while reducing energy costs and improving profit margins. With continuous NIR online moisture testing, manufacturers can monitor moisture levels which they in-turn, can precisely control dryers to optimize the production process with minimum energy requirements as well as prevent over drying.

At-Line/Laboratory Measurements
For fast at-line or laboratory measurements, MoistTech’s IRMA-858 sensor is ideal for salt measurements. The 858 incorporates MoistTech’s
well-proven IR-3000 optics and electronics providing superb accuracy, resolution and the shortest test time of any similar technology gauge. Ideal for laboratories or near processing lines MoistTech’s IRMA 858 is the first sensor where samples are measured from the bottom up in sealed, quartz based containers. With samples in a completely sealed chamber eliminates any constituent losses that are caused by handling and in the environment providing the most accurate true moisture reading.
Installation
In the salt manufacturing process, there are many locations throughout manufacturing that the sensor can be used. The location is often determined by the space availability and accessibility as well as manufactures moisture control plan. In the salt manufacturing process it is recommend having a sensor installed at the oven in-let and outlet. Once installed, a manufacturer can continuously monitor the process and can control the moisture content, either manually or automatically.
MoistTech is very experienced with the requirements in the production of salt. Our sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical requirements are pre-set at the factory. Typical accuracy is +/-0.01% moisture. The outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.
